Institute of Microbiological and Biochemical Pharmacy is a research institute under School of Pharmacy of Lanzhou University. Its research mainly covers three directions: 1) Biotechnological pharmaceutics; 2) New technologiesfor drug screening and discovery; 3) Intellectual property researchon biopharmaceutics. Over the years, the Institute has established a platform of long-acting recombinant fusion protein carrier based on biotechnological drug research and development. It has developed many kinds of long-acting carrier fusion proteins, such asrecombinant TPO mimetic peptide, vasoactive intestinal peptideand long-acting melatonin-stimulating hormone. The Institute has also devoted to the research of new technology for drug screening and discovery, especially usingCaenorhabditis elegans as pathological modelson the screeningand discovery of new medicinal appications and drug candidates. In addition, the Intellectual property research on biopharmaceuticsclosely integrates pharmacy practice with the practice of intellectual property rights, which not only promotes the innovation of pharmaceutical research, but also promotes the transformation of pharmaceutical achievements. Nowadays, our Institute has 7 teachers, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 4 lecturers. In recent 5 years, our institute undertakea number of national projects, such as “Major New Drugs Innovation and Development”, “National Natural Science Foundation of China”National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China” and latitudinal project.

The Institute of Microbiological and Biochemical Pharmacy relies on two scientific research bases, “International Pharmaceutical Cooperation Base for Biopharmaceutics of Lanzhou University” and “High-throughput Screening and Creation Engineering Research Center of Health Products of Gansu Province”. The "Lanzhou University Biopharmaceutical International Science and Technology Cooperation Base" is the first batch of national-level foreign bases which identified by the Ministry of Science and Technology in August, 2009. It is also the first national-level international science and technology cooperation base established by Lanzhou University. Since its establishment, the base has been focusing on high-level theoretical and applied research in the field of biopharmaceutics, and promotion ofthe cooperation achievements. Now, it has not only established a good international cooperation platform and international cooperation environment, but alsomadea great effect to promote the coordinated development of Gansu and regional economies. The "Gansu Provincial High-throughput Screening and Creation Engineering Research Center for Health Products" is a provincial-level scientific research platform, it is approved and established by the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission in November 2015. After three years of construction, the high-throughput screening technology to screening and creating health products, it plays an important role in the pharmaceutical scientific research of Lanzhou University.

The Institute has courses like "Biotechnology Pharmaceuticals", "Microbiology and Immunity", "Biochemistry", "Pharmaceutical Cell Biology", "Molecular Biology and Biochemical Technology", and "Introduction to Pharmaceutical Intellectual Property" "Introduction to Drug research and development" and "Pharmacotoxicology" for undergraduates, graduate students, and adult education. It also undertakes the MOOC projects of ”Technology Pharmaceutical", "Introduction to Drug Intellectual Property" and "Biochemistry".
